Recreation Customer Service Attendant

Position Overview
The City of Richmond Community Services Department is looking for customer-service oriented individuals who are energetic, enthusiastic and have excellent communication and interpersonal skills to join the teams at several recreation facilities in Richmond. As an Attendant, you will enjoy taking initiative, creating a friendly and welcoming atmosphere for our patrons, working in a fast-paced and dynamic recreational and office environment to process client transactions with speed and accuracy, and providing support to other staff. You will conduct yourself with integrity, respect, and professionalism while working on shifts with great colleagues and opening and closing shifts independently. You have an ability to organize work, prioritize tasks in a busy environment, and exercise sound judgement when working with limited supervision.
These Attendant positions are auxiliary positions with no guaranteed shifts. Shifts can vary from week to week based on operational requirement and the availability you have submitted.
Key Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Provide exceptional customer service and respond to inquiries and requests for assistance or information.
Register patrons for programs and courses using computerized point-of-sale (POS) system.
Provide clerical, office administration, and program support to others in the facility.
Respond to facility needs to ensure cleanliness and safety is maintained.
Coordinate emergency response to urgent incidents when necessary.
Qualifications:
Completion of high school diploma (Grade 12 or equivalent).
Previous work or volunteer experience in a customer-service oriented position.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to use basic functions in MS Word, Excel, and Outlook.
Ability to perform set-up and take-down of tables, chairs, and program-related equipment.
Satisfactory completion of Employment Reference Checks and a Police Information Check.
Preferred Qualifications:
Post-secondary course work in office administration and/or recreation.
Completion of a First Aid certificate is preferred for select shifts.
Knowledge of and/or familiarity with the Xplor Recreation.
Cashier or other cash handling experience is desirable.
Conversational ability in another language may be an asset for select shifts/locations.
Working Conditions:
Duties are performed in busy environments, typically at the front counter cash/reception area. Some exposure to upset or challenging customers may occur. May be required to move equipment for set-up and take-down as required for programs, functions, and events.

Candidates successful in phone interview are invited to in person interview: Thursday, April 4 and Tuesday, April 9, 2024. Interviews will be conducted at Thompson Community Centre.
Individuals successful through the interview will be required to have professional references and a Police Information Check completed.
